Acute Care Surgery

Research Theme

Our department was the first in the country to establish a unit that specializes in the research of Acute Care Surgery. In addition to the four areas of Acute Care Surgery (trauma surgery, emergency surgery, surgical intensive care, surgical rescue), we also do research on Disaster Medicine.

Paying particular attention to trauma surgery, we conduct varied research centered on the treatment effects of damage control resuscitation and damage control surgery for life-threatening cases. We are also working on the following research themes:

  1. Investigation into treatment effects in damage control strategy for severe trauma
  2. Development of treatment methods and pathogenesis of Blood Coagulation Disorder for severe trauma
  3. Research concerning the establishment of a trauma care system
  4. Epidemiological research on severe trauma
  5. Development of a system for trauma care education
  6. Development of treatment methods to improve survivability in severe emergency surgery
  7. Investigation into the efficacy of a hybrid ER system
  8. Research relating to respiratory and circulatory control for surgical intensive care
  9. Research relating to surgical rescue
  10. Research on an education system for Disaster Medicine
