Hello, I am Jahan Nusrat from Bangladesh. I’m in the 4th year of the Ph.D. course at the Department of Developmental Biology, Faculty of Medicine. My major is Developmental Biology.
   My thesis work focused on the development of the organs and their histogenesis. There have been many children born with congenital anomalies. We are researching those anomalies which occur before birth and their causative factors. My present thesis is about the development of the digestive tract (duodenum) and related anomalies.
   I feel very lucky to have a brilliant mentor, Prof. Hiroki Otani, who is leading me to the success of science discovery. He has taught me a lot of things that I cannot express in words. As we know, leading mentors and professors have a direct influence on your success. He always supports me through my every phase of life here both in personal life and work. I am always thankful to my mentor.
   Coming from the big city Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the problems are also big like traffic jams, big populations, air pollution etc. Izumo is the complete opposite to where I belong. The calm and quiet atmosphere makes it very pleasant to live, and easy to concentrate on study, in my opinion. The people of Izumo are very polite, gentle and helpful to foreigners. Everyday life here is simple but full of joy and happiness.
   Shimane University has abundant resources, and a conducive teaching-learning environment for both local and foreign students. The cooperative studying system combining medicine, science, technology and agriculture all together are fascinating for the international students. I think Shimane University has a bright future in the field of scientific research, and very soon, it will be well-renowned worldwide.
   Lastly, I would like to advise those who are interested in studying here as a graduate student to study English and Japanese language. This will help to understand not only the research but also help to be at ease in everyday life. So, choosing Shimane University for your future study will undoubtedly be the best decision!
