Ph.D Oral Defense (学位審査)

2023.12.11

I am Andi Masdipa, a doctoral student in the Department of Ophthalmology at Shimane University Faculty of Medicine. With great pleasure, I would like to provide a brief report on my Ph.D. Oral Defense, which took place on Monday, December 11, 2023. I experienced mixed feelings as I began presenting my dissertation titled “Flow Pressure Characteristics of the Ahmed Glaucoma Valve and Possible Effect of Entrapped Air”. Nervousness intensified throughout the presentation, as the participants filled the Audiovisual room on the 3rd floor of the Medical Library, my designated presentation room.
Delivering a 30-minute presentation, outlining the objectives, results, and valuable findings of the research, passed by swiftly. A sense of relief started to set in as I reached the "Thank You" slide. However, the question-and-answer session and discussion promptly commenced immediately after the presentation concluded. One participant and three judges took turns posing questions and providing feedback related to my presentation material. While there may have been instances where my responses to questions were less than optimal, I could still see the satisfaction in the smiles of the questioner and the three judges.
With a sense of satisfaction and joy that emerged at the end of my Ph.D oral defense, as this marked the final stage of my doctoral course at Shimane University Faculty of Medicine. And the event ended with a group photo with the judges and my supervisor. From this point, I would like to express my utmost gratitude to the honorable judges, Nakamura Sensei, Iwashita Sensei, and Kodama Sensei. Equally important, I extend a tremendous thank you to my supervisor, Tanito Sensei, who has guided and directed me from the beginning until now. Additionally, I express heartfelt appreciation to Kaidzu Sensei and the Department of Ophthalmology secretary for their assistance in preparing for my oral defense.
