3. Role of the cell-cell interaction in the function of endothelial cell

Gap junctions (GJs) are intercellular channels that synchronize the intracellular environment of neighboring cells by promoting the transfer of ions, amino acids, small metabolites, and second messengers. GJ is essential for intercellular communication. The abnormality of GJ between endothelial cell, smooth muscle cell, and leukocyte facilitates the process of cardiovascular diseases. In this project, we have investigated the role of endothelial GJs in vascular function and its molecular mechanisms for the development of the therapeutic strategy against cardiovascular diseases.
