Shimane University - The place where dreams begin

Hello, everyone. My name is Yang Jiahao. I studied in the Department of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University during my Ph.D., and I am currently working as a pediatric fellow. During my Ph.D., my primary research was on the application of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in mitochondrial diseases. Our previous study revealed that MSCs, as well as ultra-purified MSCs (RECs), can be used as effective donor cells to donate mitochondria to mitochondria-deficient cells. We explored the effect of contact and noncontact systems on three possible mitochondrial transfer mechanisms involving tunneling nanotubes, connexin 43 (Cx43)-mediated gap junction channels (GJCs), and extracellular vesicles (Evs). In addition, we found that REC-derived exosomes facilitate the mitochondrial transfer from RECs. These findings provide valuable insights that should help in devising a new strategy for the treatment of diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
Izumo is the city with the most mysterious charm for me. I am fascinated by the ancient cultural legends, the most historical Izumo Taisha Shrine, and the magnificent and magical scenery. Without the hustle and bustle of the big city, the peaceful and relaxing atmosphere is perfect for some researchers, and this motivates me to concentrate on my research and work. The city is immaculate and the people here are very qualified and polite. This is all part of Izumo's unique charm. Here you can learn new things, meet new people, see new perspectives, and discover new possibilities. In addition to these unique humanistic charms, Shimane University has an excellent faculty and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, as well as many outstanding researchers who join the university every year, all of which contribute to the university's faster and better development. We believe that with our joint efforts, the university will be able to become a world-class university.
If you are interested in studying at the Faculty of Medicine at Shimane University, I would like to give you some advice. The first thing is to improve your English and Japanese language skills. English will help you to publish papers or make conference presentations better; Japanese will help you to live and study in Japan. The second is to develop good study habits and make your own study plan, which will make it easier for you to complete your studies. The third is to learn and maintain healthy habits, which will give you a healthy body and lots of energy. Fourth, I hope that you will become an innovative researcher. The ability to identify problems is an indispensable factor for innovative researchers. Identifying problems is the basis for solving them, and don't be afraid to encounter problems that may be breakthroughs and innovations in research.
In conclusion, I hope that you will enjoy every day of your time here, and a combination of work and rest will make you significantly more productive. I believe the time you spend studying here will become one of the best memories of your life.
