Pathological Biochemistry

Research Theme

(1) Nucleosome positioning and epigenetics
(2) Effects of disease-associated mutations on molecular functions

Details

The genomic DNA of eukaryotes, including humans, is packaged in the nucleus as arrays of nucleosomes. The nucleosome, in which DNA wraps around histone proteins, serves as basic units for epigenetic regulation of transcription. After genetic information is transcribed, its expression is also regulated at many stages, including processing and translation. By elucidating these phenomena through simple model systems, we aim to understand molecular mechanisms underlying human disease development.
